STATEMENT ON MATH INSTRUCTION IN MCPS

The Parents' Alliance of Montgomery County has adopted the following positions concerning mathematics instruction for Montgomery County Public Schools:

1. MCPS should immediately return to the ISM curriculum, and then in collaboration with teachers, parents, advocacy groups, and other stakeholders take steps to streamline, improve, and modify the ISM curriculum for any changes that are necessary or advisable to achieve a world class math curriculum for all students.

2. All children shall be taught what they are ready to learn next rather than inflexible grade-level instruction, and shall have their academic progress monitored through frequent objective assessments whose results are communicated in a timely manner.
